Default Word Main Title bar, file, edit, view etc...

I have Word 2003. The main title bar, ie File, Edit, View, Insert etc and
the toolbar underneath it has a dotted line going down the left hand side.
Next to the File on the top menu and next to the new blank document icon
underneath that is. When you hover the mouse over these dotted lines, a
cross appears. Why is this and how can I revert it back to a solid line as
before. Thanks

The dots (or "stipples") are the toolbar handle. You can grab the toolbar by
the handle and move it anywhere you like (docked or floating). AFAIK, this
appearance has not changed; that is, I don't think you had a "solid line"
before.

Sorry to butt in...I did not know these were called 'stipples'. In spoken
English, stipples are speckles or flecks. Is this Microsoft's 'official'
name for the dotted lines, or are you simply describing them in English?

Nah, just ran across the term somewhere lately; actually I think someone
referred to "the stippled area." In any case, they're dots.
