Default how do I highlight a couple of paragraphs without scrolling down entire page?

Every time I try to highlight text past the page that is being viewed
I end up scrolling all the way down the page. Is there some trick to
keeping the page from scrolling out of controlled when highlighting?

Don't use your mouse. Instead, click at the beginning of the desired
selection, and press Ctrl+Shift+DownArrow a couple of times to select a
couple of contiguous paragraphs.

Another technique is to click where you want the selection to start, then
Shift+Click where you want it to end.
