Default Problems with Links - 2003 Converted to .docx format

I have a book in 2003 format with hundreds of links to images. The Links
appear as INCLUDEPICTURE fields. When this is stored as .docx file, 2007
stores it differently without using the INCLUDEPICTURE fields.
When a link has to be changed in .docx file,
1. Change Picture command shows no context of the current filename
associated with the link
2. Links Dialog always has the selection on the first item in the list which
may not even be a link.

The only work around seems to be: For each Link, I have to
Insert.QuickParts.Field.INCLUDEPICTURE, manually type in the filename with no
data storage option. Any other workaround?

If the InsertPicture method is the way to store Links in 2007, why is the
current selection or the filename never available while changing the Link -
Links Dlg or the ChangePicture dlg?

Thanks in advance - Jayawanth

The underlying file structure is different in Word 2007. If you want to
return to the 2003 image view then save the docx file as Word 97-2003
format. That will return the links to a viewable IncludePicture field. Make
your changes then save as docx again ... or leave it as doc.

The Question is: What is the proper (consistent and complete) UI/method for
handling links in 2007? Why is the filename never available in the 2007 UI?
Switching back and forth is not an option since other features (e.g.
SmartArt) will get messed up.
