I can't see most of my footnotes in Print Preview mode. Any idea why? There's
plenty of room on the page, so I don't know why they would not show ... some of them in the document show just fine (mostly, those near the front of the document), but the rest won't show. Please help!! |

Are the "missing" footnotes formatted as hidden? If so, clear that
format (look in Format | Font). -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "GirlWriter" wrote in message ... I can't see most of my footnotes in Print Preview mode. Any idea why? No, they weren't hidden -- but, since posting, I have resolved the problem.
It seems that there was 1 page in the middle of my document that did not have room for the footnote. And, apparently, when Word can't place a footnote on its page, it suppresses all remaining footnotes in the document until the problem footnote is resolved. Once I broke the table on that page to allow room for the footnote, all of the remaining footnotes "magically" reappeared. ) Thanks! -S- "Stefan Blom" wrote: Are the "missing" footnotes formatted as hidden? I'm glad you got it sorted. I'm not sure what happened in your document,
though, because usually when footnotes don't fit the "correct" page they are moved to the following page(s). Table footnotes are always placed on the page where the row ends; if you
have a very long single-row table and accumulate more footnotes than will fit on that page, then they will be suppressed. You need to break the table into more rows. -- Suzanne S. Does it depends on the version how Word handles this? In my experience, Word
places the text of table footnotes more or less arbitrarily. Sometimes, they end up on pages where you don't expect them (even before the footnote reference in the text). -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "Suzanne S. .... but I've never seen them disappear completely.
(The above is one reason why I prefer to create footnotes manually in tables; the other is that it allows you to put the notes at the bottom of the table rather than at the bottom of the page.) -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "Stefan Blom" wrote: Does it depends on the version how Word handles this? I have seen them disappear completely, and the reason was always that
someone let a table row go on for many, many pages, accumulating so many footnotes that they couldn't all fit on the page where the row ended. Once the row was split into several rows, the problem was solved. If Word were designed to put the footnote on the page where the reference appears (without regard to the end of the row), the problem would be solved. Like you, however, I create table footnotes manually and put them at the end of the table (usually in the last [merged] row of the table). -- Suzanne S.
