Default Mouse not working on macro record

Hi all
When I try and record a macro with only the word document open, my mouse
seems to become disabled.

Once I hit record for a new macro a symbol which looks like an unhappy face
appears next to the mouse pointer. I then cant use the mouse to select,
highlight ect.... but the keyboard functions still work.

I have tried opening new word doccuments and recording a macro but still no
luck.
What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance.

The macro recorder ignores the mouse for actions within the document (you
can still select menu options, etc). For macro-recording purposes you have
to stick to the keyboard. Fortunately, *everything* can be done entirely
with the keyboard.

Adding to that, I can still use the mouse to select the menus at the top.
I am asking this because I am trying to select a table. Not knowing the
command for it, autoselect.table probably, I was trying to just record the
mouse movments instead with no luck.

Try Table | Select | Table from the menu.

It works in Excel. Not in Word.

You can't. Word macros can only be used with key commands. In my case I got
confused with excel, as you can record mouse movments on tables.

I'm affaraid you're going to have to learn the key functions and record your
macro that way.
