Default Autocomplete for autotext not working?

This is a problem in Word 2003. We have an extensive system of autotext
entries at our office. Works great for most of us. I have one user (that I
know of) for whom the autocomplete feature is not working correctly.
Normally, we type the four-letter short cut, and the autocomplete tip pops
up, allowing the user to hit enter to insert the autotext entry. Here's
what I've looked at to troubleshoot:

* She does have access to the autotext file. If she goes into the autotext
dialog box, she can choose the autotext entry from the list, and hit the
"insert" button. This is just rather cumbersome. (The file is a shared file
saved in the startup folder. Her startup folder is pointed to the correct
location.)

*The box for "show autocomplete entries" IS checked.

*She has no "disabled" items. (Went to Help/About MS Word/Disabled Items to
check this. Not sure if there is any other place to check?) We did not try
opening in safe mode, but since nothing's disabled, I wasn't sure what good
that would do anyway.

*All the autotext entries are at least four characters, and there are not
duplicate entries with the same shortcuts. No autotext entry will produce an
autocomplete screentip.

*As a workaround, I told her she could type the autotext shortcut and then
hit F3. This works. (Found that tip here on this forum -- thanks!)

Any ideas out there why autocomplete tips would stop working despite
everything apparently being set up correctly? She said she recently got a
new computer, and has had all kinds of weird little problems like this
cropping up. Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

Hi Dawn,

That's a pretty thorough investigation, so I'd say it's nothing
"normal" that you've missed.

On the chance that the check box in the dialog doesn't correspond to
the setting stored in the registry, try this: open the VBA editor
(Alt+F8), display the Immediate window (Ctrl+G), paste this line into
it and press Enter:

Application.DisplayAutoCompleteTips = True

One more thing you can try is deleting the Data key in the registry.
See http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/Custom...eySettings.htm
and http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErr...ngMenusEtc.htm for
information and procedures.
