What are my cell borders now?
Hi All,
Am I doing something wrong or is this poor functionality? In Word 2003, in my table cell: table table properties borders and shading borders tab apply to: cell Don't you think the current borders of the cell you're in should be shown? I get no borders. I'm just making a lot of forms and trying to match the borders to other forms, but I can't see or remember what width and color of grey I used. Thanks, Michele |

I agree that this is poor functionality. It's virtually impossible, at
normal Zooms, to tell the difference between a half-point and three-quarter point border. I'm not sure how an improvement could be implemented, but something needs to be done. Here's something interesting to try. In a table with no borders, select one cell. Go to Format | Borders and Shading and apply a half-point border to the top of the cell and a 1.5 point border to the bottom of the cell. OK out. Display the Reveal Formatting task pane. With your bordered cell selected, you'll see that Borders reports a 0.5 pt top border. If you select the cell beneath that one, Borders will report a 1.5 pt top border. If you select your original cell, return to Borders and Shading, and apply side borders (any weight), you'll see that Reveal Formatting reports the left border but not the right. The cell to the right of the original one should at least report a left border, but it doesn't; what it does report is "(no border)" for Top, Bottom, and Right, leaving you to assume there is some kind of border on the left. sigh -- Suzanne S. Try this one --
Apply pattern shading to a table (anything from the lower part of the Shading tab, like 50% green). Apply a bottom border to a paragraph within the table. Use format paragraph to add some space above and below that paragraph. The space above and below shows as white, regardless of any other shading settings; even if you apply full shading to the table and or to the paragraph. But only if the bottom border is there... Hi Suzanne,
Yes, I get the same thing as you. I've yet to find the time to install 2007 Beta2, but I'm hoping its better at these types of things. Thanks for responding, Michele Suzanne S.
