Default How do I change the cursor appearance in Word?

I'm using Word 2003. Yesterday I was editing a document, with the cursor
appearing as the familiar " I " looking type cursor. Today I opened the same
document, and mysteriously, the cursor now appears as a " dot ". I can't
figure out how it changed, or how to change it back. Please help!
