Default Enlarge the space below a footnote separator?

Hello.

I'm using Word 2007.

How is it possible to make a footnote, which expands upwards as long
as it is necessary, even if it ends up occupying, say, 90 percent of
the page, with the non-footnote text comprising only several lines?

In my current document, the footnote separator cannot be moved up, and
the long footnote is carried over to another page which is unwanted.

Thanks!

It's not a question of moving the footnote separator; the footnote, on its
own, will expand as needed, within reasonable limitations: the footnote
cannot take up more space than is left on the page following the footnote
reference in the text. If the footnote reference appears low on the page,
there will be less space available for the footnote. You can ensure that the
footnote is not broken by formatting it as "Keep lines together" (and, if it
contains more than one paragraph, by formatting all paragraphs except the
last as "Keep with next"), but this will force the footnote reference and
the entire footnote onto the next page if there isn't sufficient room on the
first page, potentially leaving a very large bottom margin on the preceding
page. And of course this cannot be done with a footnote longer than a page.

Except in rare instances where the footnote appears on a different page from
its reference in the text (see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting...nDiffPage.htm), it's generally
best to let Word do what it does.
