How do I get to place accents on Spanish words using alt + corresponding
number. For example "e" will be "alt130" but my keyboard doesn't recognize
the command.

You need to use the numbers on the number keypad.

If you're using a US keyboard, type Ctrl-' (apostrophe) or Ctrl-~
(tilde) followed by the letter (small or cap) the accent goes on. (I
forget how to get the opening ! and ?, but they're done similarly.)
