Default In "Word" How do I merge eight files into one?

I clicked on the "Help" menu, and a detailed descriptionof how I do this was
there. However, it stated "Click on the Tools bar. Then click on "Compare and
merge document". My Tools bar only shows two options : "Word count" and "Mail
merge". So how do I merge eight files into one?

Any help would be deeply appreciated.

Hi Brenda,

Why can't you try Insert File?

Help was describing a different kind of merge, i.e., where you are merging
different versions of the same file (e.g., containing edits by different
people) to consolidate edits/changes.

Insert - File will do what you want. If you simply want to concatenate the 8
files, use Insert - File, and don't use Insert as Link. If you want to
maintain the 8 files independently, using the 9th file merely to display
them so they appear to be a single file, then use Insert as Link in the
Insert File dialog box.

The master document feature, in theory, can also do what you want. However,
master document has a longstanding reputation for being a good way to
corrupt/destroy files. If you use this approach, please please please make
backup copies of all documents involved.
