Default why does my word attachment go as a txt file sometimes?

If I select to send a word document directly from word, and not by attaching
the document via an email, the document goes as a text file not as a word
file. Do you knw the reason for this and how I can stop it?

It is a security measure and that's how it is supposed to work. Given that
you have absolutely no control over how a recipient views e-mails, it is not
something you need worry about. By sending as text you ensure low bandwidth,
fast downloads for the benefit of users on slow dial-up systems, and no
possibility of virus propagation; or as attachment you will ensure the
message is seen as intended.
