Default Word 2007 Styles

I have tried repeatedly to set the default style to "No Spacing" according to
KB article but it always reverts to the original style "normal" I tried
changing the style set to Word 2003 but it still reverts to original. Any
ideas? Additionally, I would prefer to get rid of the "Styles" section of the
Home ribbon altogether. Is there a way to do that?

You can *modify* the Normal style but you cannot replace it with a different
style; it's always there. To change the default settings, do this: In a
blank document, press Ctrl+Shift+Alt+S. In the Styles pane, click the Manage
Styles button. In the Manage Styles dialog box, click the Set Defaults tab
and make the desired changes. Make sure to click the "New documents based on
this template" option, and click OK.

If you want a different style to be applied to the empty paragraph of your
template, open the template as a document (via the Open dialog box), and
then apply the style--for example via the Apply Styles pane (Ctrl+Alt+S).

To control which styles are displayed on the Home tab, modify (see the Edit
tab of the Manage Styles dialog box) the style and check or clear the "Add
to Quick Styles" setting.

Unfortunately, the ribbon cannot be customized (unless you know XML).

I also have had this question - Thanks for the useful reply!

If I may ask a slightly off-topic follow up: How do you change the default
normal style settings in Outlook to make it also "No Spacing"?

You are welcome.

Sorry, I don't use Outlook, so I can't help you with that one. Ask in an
Outlook newsgroup.

Thanks - this helped me too. Except for one thing. In "Line Spacing" I want
to set "Multiple" to "1" but it continually reverts to "3", even using the
instructions you provided. How can I set it to "1" permanently?
