Default Word 2003 forms (checkbox form field) change default x to tick??

I'm creating forms in Word 2003 and wanting to change the default behavior of
the Checkbox Form field. In the toolbar it displays it correctly with a
(checkmark or tick) but when used in a document it defaults to an X or cross.
I've looked at the properties but nothing there mentions changing it to a
tick.

Sorry, the X is all you get from the form field. The toolbar button image
has nothing to do with it.

You can get the character you want in the Wingdings 2 font, if you can use
the system of checkboxes and macros used in the Fax templates -- see
http://gregmaxey.mvps.org/add_check_boxes.htm. Also have a look at the
Checkbox Add-in at http://www.addbalance.com/word/download.htm.
