Default Not displaying #!

I am new to Office 2007 and wonder if I have some setting on my computer that
makes the \ print when I press Shift and 3, hoping to get the #?

Has anyone ever had this happen before?

Check if the correct input language (keyboard layout) has been specified in
Windows (Control Panel, Regional and Language Options).
