Default Language Setting
Is it possible to set the language to 'English (Australia)' so it will be
the default across all office applications? I keep having to change it manually in outlook at the moment. |

Hello Suzanne, you gave me this address -
http://homepage.swissonline.ch/cindymeister/LangFmt.htm - for this problem on another thread last year, but despite having made all the recommended changes, Word 2003 still occasionally changes to English (US) from the default English (UK). I notice that although in both XP and in Office Language settings the only language that should be avialable is English (UK), in Word under TOOLS | LANGUAGE | SET LANGUAGE | MARK SELECTED TEXT LANGUAGE, English (US) is still available with English (UK). As I've only selected English UK to be available in both XP and Word, why is English (US) available at all? How can I completely eliminate Englsih (US) so that it is completely unavailable. Thanks, Robert (posting here because the 'new' button just bleeps, but the 'reply' button still works). "Suzanne S. Have you cleared the check box for "Detect language automatically"? Note
also that when you paste text into a document, it comes in with its own language formatting. -- Suzanne S. (Suzanne, as I've asked this same question on two threads (and you have just
answered the other one as well), this response of mine is also posted on the other thread. Not only that, but as I managed to get a new post working (had my popups disabled), I've asked this same question but a bit more fully at OFFICE | WORD | WORD MENUS-TOOLBARS. Sorry about this mess!) Yes, I've unchecked the "Detect language automatically". Every time this has happened I've also created a new document and pasted the 'problem' doc minus the last paragraph mark - usually the last word just to make sure - yet it still keeps happening even though I have not pasted anything into this document. But how would I check if something I pasted in was going to affect a change in the default language. I'm afraid I have also posted this problem as a new query in the past hour! I found that the reason I couldn'y do a new posting was that I had popups disabled. I thought no one would probably answer a thread that was a couple of months old! Thanks, Robert "Suzanne S. Pasting in text shouldn't affect the *default* language setting (but it will
bring its own language with it for the text you paste, and if you continue to type after the pasted text, you'll continue in the same language). If something is changing your defaults, I'd suspect an add-in. -- Suzanne S. OK, this makes some sense. I'll keep this is mind and be watchful when I do
a paste. If I catch this happening, I'll post here. Thanks for your help. Robert "Suzanne S.
