Word 2007 - Chapter Headings + Page Numbering
Hi everyone:
I know my way around Word pretty well, but I am REALLY stuck on this one .. UGH .. lol I have a document, where I have "Chapter - Heading 1" set for each of the main headers so that these not only show in the Table of Contents, but also so that the page numbers have the chapter number included. (e.g., Chapter 1 - page 1-1) Problem is .... the chapter numbering, does not go sequentially with what I am trying to do .. (e.g., I must skip numbers here and there) 25 26 27 28 30 35 etc. I have figured out that by having the "Style" applied to the main headings and by right clicking and choosing "set numbering value" it will skip to whatever number I want ... BUT ... the page number stays attached to the previous section (as I'm using section breaks) and doesn't update. Example: I need to go from 28 to 30 ... was able to change the Chapter Heading number to 30, but the page numbering stays at 28-[ ] .... Help Please !!!! |

Word 2007 - Chapter Headings + Page Numbering
A quick test suggests that chapter/page numbering *may* fail with restarted
heading numbers, but the results I got were inconclusive. With restarts, it might be easier to make use of SEQ fields; see the "Adding chapter numbering" section of the article at http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/TOCTips.htm. -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "Northy" wrote in message ... Word 2007 - Chapter Headings + Page Numbering
Hi Stefan:
Thanks for the reply, but I need to do this with non-sequential numbers, not letters ... what should I be placing in the Field code for numbers? Instead of resetting the number value for the heading, insert the headings ,
or at least the appropriate number of empty returns formatted as heading 1, then hide them. Chapter numbering seems to be able to keep up with this. W2007 sometimes does this when you set the numbering value, but I haven't figured out the circumstances for when or why. Instead of { SEQ chapter \* ALPHABETIC } just use { SEQ chapter }. The \r
(restart) switch works the same with Arabic numbers. -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "Northy" wrote in message ...
