run the mail merge, and run mail merge query, but lock the remaining document

I would like to create a Mail merge documents that is locked so people can
run the mail merge, and run mail merge query, but lock the remaining document
so that it can not be altered.

This would require a macro solution, since mail merge is not compatible with
document protection.
