Outline View - Outline Level pulldown does not format text
Using Office Word 2003 SP2, MS Office Basic Edition, XP Professional.
I'm learning to use Outline View, reworking an existing document. I do not get expected text formatting when I use the Outline Level pulldown box to apply a level setting to text originally formatted as Body Text. To get the formatting I want I must use the Promote to Heading 1 arrow and then Demote arrow. Am I missing something, or is this the way things are? Or, is it just our own very special version of Word that works this way? Thanks to all you MVPs! I've learned a lot from these discussion groups. -- Grinny |

Are you talking about font/paragraph formatting? This is toggled by the Show
Formatting button on the Outlining toolbar. -- Suzanne S. Sorry, Suzanne, I should have said "style" (i.e. Heading 1, 2, 3), not
"formatting." Choosing the level from the Outline Level pull-down moves the text to the correct indentation but does not change the text style to match the style associated with the level. Using the promote and demote arrows does change the style, and saves me doing it manually, which I like. -- Grinny "Suzanne S. Barnhill" wrote: Are you talking about font/paragraph formatting? The Alt+Shift+Left/Right Arrow shortcuts work in this view to Promote/Demote

Yes! That changes the style as well as the level. Thanks very much, Suzanne.
