Default Table of Contents indent problem

The indenting of the ToC for a second line has the first letter of the line
one space to the left in all of the items that drop to a second line. I am
using Word 2000. This is happening in the display and the print output. I
have gone through all the formatting choices. How can I fix this? Thank you
for any advice or help you can provide.

One space to the left of what? If your hanging indent is not correctly
positioned, you can modify the style.

Default Table of Contents indent problem

This is an example of the issue, copied and pasted from my ToC:

409 MEDICAL EXEMPTION FROM REGISTRATION AT JOB SERVICE
410 MEDICAL RESOURCE REQUIREMENT
411 ELIGIBILITY FOR VETERANS ASSISTANCE AS RELATED TO SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS
412 APPLICANT/RECIPIENT COOPERATION

On #411, the E is 1 space left, then the second line lines up with the line
above it. It will be 1 space out or 1 space in, not right below and in line
with the rest of the ToC. (Because this writing space is so narrow, the
'security benefits' is not where it would actually appear in the ToC, which
is directly below the E in the line above it, 1 space too far left.) I think
it may be just a wee bit less than a full space. This appears 4 times in the
2 pages of the ToC, while all the other items that use only a single line are
lined up right. I have tried every formatting tool in the ToC, even removing
it and rebuilding it, changing indents, font size, character spacing, all the
various format and style tools. I have read just about every ToC item in the
newsgroup and visited the ToC guru webpage, Shauna, looking for an answer,
trying to straighten this text up for going on 2 weeks. Is this enough
information? Please let me know if there is anything else I can show you.
Thanks for your reply.

I still think it sounds like you need to adjust the hanging indent of the
TOC style.

Default Table of Contents indent problem

Hi, sorry to take so long replying with my progress, it has been busy! I
reformatted the table of contents with a different font after removing it as
a ToF, then recreating the ToC in a different smaller font. It now is all
lined up the way I want it. Thanks for your time and effort.
