I write after having downloaded a word 'birthday' template. Sent it to
myself and found that the toobar aparatus comes with it. This certainly
takes away from the appeal of the card and I write to inquire if there is a
way for the recipient to see the card without the 'tools' surrounding it.

If you open it in Word, then of course you see the toolbar. If the recipient
opens it in Word, the same will be true. If you have the ability to convert
it to a PDF, you could send it that way. But the greeting card templates are
really intended for cards to be printed and mailed. If you want to send an
e-card, there are numerous Web sites that will accommodate you.
