Hello.

Newbie here.

If using an Avery 5160 or similar template, is it possible to continue
creating labels once one had reached the 30th label... meaning, can I
open a second (third, fourth... etc.) template directly following the
original so that I will see all 60 or more labels or must I create the
30, print, erase what I've done and start over?

I appreciate the assistance.

Hi Danielle,

Did you download the file from the Avery web site, or did you use the
New Document button in the Envelopes & Labels dialog? In either case,
what you have is not a "template" in Word's terms, but just a
"document". A "template" has a file extension of .dot and should be
stored in your Templates folder, for use with the File New dialog. A
"document" has a file extension of .doc and may be stored anywhere.

For your purposes, you should make a template. To do that, open the
document you have (or a copy of it), and delete any text that's in the
cells of the table. Click File Save As, and set the "Save as type"
dropdown to "Word Template (*.dot)". That will change the dialog's
path to your Templates folder. Supply a name (such as "Avery 5160")
and click OK. Close the document, click File New, and choose your
template as the base for a new document. You can create as many of
these new documents as you like, and none of them will change anything
in the template. You can then save, print, or discard the documents at
any time, still without affecting the template.

If all your labels are different, and especially if you print some or
all of them multiple times, then the procedure above is inefficient.
Instead, you should put the text into a mail merge source, and do mail
merges to labels whenever necessary. Read

Jay has told you one way to approach it. If you have used the New Document
button to get a sheet of labels from the Labels dialog, the page is set up
as a table, and it will behave like any other table, which means you can
continue onto a new page by pressing Tab at the end of the page. You'll have
to keep pressing Tab to get additional rows until you fill the second page,
or you can select and copy the whole first sheet and paste it on the second
page.

As Jay suggested, however, if you have this many labels to fill, you
probably should be using a mail merge.

Firstly, I would like to thank Jay and Suzanne for their expert
knowledge and quick response. I am now able to do what I previously
was unable to, that being the ability to view more than a single sheet
of 30 labels at any given time.

I am sure to run across other difficulties that while rudimentary for
those more experienced, will surely cause me momentary grief , but
for the moment, I am more than satisfied with the assistance you have
provided me.
