Default Reducing indent space for outline view

Hi. I am using the outline view a lot. By default the lower headings are
indented too far into the text space and wasting the space. I want to have
less indent for the lower headings so I can have more text under it.

* Corpus linguistics: grammar patterns
*Definition of grammar patterns -- Too much indent
Text body

Is there any way to reduce the heading indents?
I often number the headings hierarchically (1., 1.1., 1.1.1, etc). In this
case do I use a different method to control the indent space?

Somebody answered "modify the style". This is not helpful. I know I need to
modify the style, but where do you start?
Also Suzannes gave me a link to Word 2003. This is not helpful because I am
using 2007. Isn't this what most people use these days?

Thanks.

In your previous postings you did not mention you were using 2007.
The answer given three days ago to reduce the displayed indent in the
Outline View is still to edit the Tab Default setting in the Tab dialog box
and not a Style. This box will not display in Outline View, so go to any
other do the change then go back to OLView.
I have tested this successfully in 2000, 2003, and 2007.
Specifically in 2007, goto Print view, Page Layout, Paragraph group, click
the Show Paragraph Dialog box button (bottom Right of group window). Clcik
Tabs button (bottom left), Top right is the box to edit the Default Tabs
stops.

I hope this helps with your original posting.

Did you read the ModifyAStyle article Ms Barnhill linked to before? This
instructs you in how to start changing the settings of a style. Even if they
are for 2003 they are still pertinent for 2007 in principle.

No, 2007 is not what most people use today. Many still have 2000 and 2003,
either due to work environment constraints, personal choice (ie don't like
2007 - many say this), or financial constraints - as we all know how cheap MS
applications are ;-)

All the best
