Default Where does the clipboard reside? Can't copy.

I have MS Word v4 (for DOS) and MS Word 97 both installed on my computer. I
can't use the "copy to clipboard command" on v4, to paste into Word 97 (and
stuff copied on 97 won't insert into v4.) I have tried the compatibility
option (run as Win98) for both, but that doesn't help.
I was wondering if I could figure out where the clipboard is, maybe I could
try the copy function in word4 to copy into the specific folder. I tried
doing a search but the wrong clipboard files came up (it was stuff for a
different adobe program.) Anyhow, it would really help if I could copy
between these programs and into notebook, etc. Can anybody help?
