Default Is Microsoft Office Word the same thing as Microsoft Word?

I need Microsoft Office 2003 for a class I am taking. I know my computer has
Microsoft Word. Are these the same things? Or will I need to buy Microsoft
Office? I also have something called Microsoft Office Tools that seems to be
unrelated, what is this? I have a fairly new computer so I just assumed my
Word would be the same or better than Word 2003. Any help is appreciated
since I have homework due on Monday. Thanks.

Hi Noma,

You could open your Word program and then click the "Help" button on
the Main Menu. You should see an option that says"About Microsoft
Office Word". That should tell you the version of Word that you have
(i.e. Word 2000 or Word 2003).

Good luck with your homework!

In the Word that you have, select "About Microsoft Office Word" from the
Help menu and it will tell you at the top of the dialog box that appears
what version of Word you have.

Microsoft Office and Microsoft Word are not the same. All editions of Office
include Word, plus 2 to5 other programs depending on the edition. The version
numbers are parallel - ie. Office 2002 includes Word 2002, Office 2003 has
Word 2003, etc. If your course requires Office and you have only Word, you
will need to acquire Office. For a rundown on what's in each edition, see

Correction: Microsoft Office XP includes Microsoft Word 2002; Microsoft
Office 2003 includes Microsoft Office Word 2003.
