Default I want to know how to make the computer say what I write.

i want to know how to make the computer say what i write on xp. i was playing
around with this earlier today on a different computer and can't for the life
of me figure out how to do it on my computer. please, if you know how, tell
me. i remember how i did it before. it was highlight what i want it to say,
hit the 'start' key, and then the 's', but it won't work now.

You say "on xp". That could mean Office XP, Windows XP or both. Are you
using Office XP or Office 2003?

What you want is done using the Speech feature. But, it doesn't work in
every application. To get Word 2003 to speak text, I do the following:
Choose Tools - Speech from the menu. This *should* cause a toolbar to
appear. One of the items it contains is the Speak command. If I select text,
it will speak the selected text. Otherwise, it will speak the text shown
from the insertion point to the bottom of the displayed window.
