Default Word wants to update normal.dot at bootup...why?

When I first boot my computer, Word comes up and wants me to change the
normal.dot file as a Save As. I don't know why it's doing this. It's not a
big deal, but I wonder why this happens.

Thanks

G'day Reddiance ,

You probably have Word in your windows startup directory, get rid of
the shortcut there.

Move the shortcut to Word from the Windows start-up folder and then see

necessary) by http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/...peningWord.htm

I checked the startup folder for both my id and all users, and there was no
call being made to Word. The only thing being called was an MS office program
called:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE" -b -l

I moved that out. I'm wondering if Word is being called from the registry
since the Startup folder isn't the only way.

OSA.EXE is the Office Startup Assistant, which sort of prefetches the apps,
I think.
