Is it possible using Microsoft Office 2003 Word to save a file with an
extension of del

What application uses/needs a .del file? In Word 2003, you can save a
file with whatever name and extension you want by putting quotation
marks around the file name in the File|Save or File|SaveAs dialog (for
example, "filename.del"), but the file format will whatever is specified
in the "Save as type" box.

Yes. Enclose the entire filename in quotes.
