Default Dynamic page number variable?

I am creating documents where certain parts of the document refer to other
pages or parts of the same document. i.e. "Please refer to page 12". The
problem with this of course is if I insert anything then the original
contents of page 12 could be pushed to another page. Is there some way such
as a dynamic variable that can be placed on the referenced page and therefore
the correct page number will always be referenced? Something like this
"Please refer to page" %Pgn1% maybe?
Thanks,
Joe M.

Place a bookmark on the material you want to refer to. Then insert a PageRef
field to display the number of the page on which the bookmark currently
rests.

After editing that might change the page number, you'll have to update the
field. The simplest way to do that is to go to Print Preview and back
(assuming you have checked the option "Update fields" in Tools Options
Print).

You need a PAGEREF field, inserted via Insert | Reference | Cross-reference.
If what you are referencing on the given page falls into one of the built-in
categories (headings, numbered lists, etc.), then you can just select the
desired item and choose the "Page number" option. If not, you'll need to
bookmark the referenced text and insert a cross-reference to the bookmark.
Note that PAGEREFs don't always update automatically but should update when
you print or Print Preview (or of course if you update all document fields
with Ctrl+A, F9).
