HOw can i replace " and « to a « with a nonbreking space ... i put «^s in
the replace with box , but it comes out as "^s. The « is required by editor
(french) for dialogue..

With the selection in the Replace with box, hold down the Shift key and the
Ctrl key and press the Space Bar. That will insert a non-breaking space in
the Replace with box so that whatever it is you are finding will be replaced
with a non-breaking space when you click on Replace All. (I can't work out
from your question exactly what it is that you are replacing, but use the
above method rather than ^s.)

thanks for the quick reply, but its not the nonbreaking space i have probs
with ... it's the « sign that is replaced with " eventho i put in « in the
replace with box. the text is in french modus , so when i press the "-key it
comes out as «, which is fine .. it just doesnt work in find&replace (kinda
like it's still in english modus ) i've tried specifying the font , language
.... in the more dialogue box .. nothing seems to work

If you have the language of your document set to French (France), then you
will get guillemets (« and ») when you type ".

And I should have added that Word inserts the guillemets followed or
preceded by a nonbreaking space. This is totally automatic when you set the
language to French.
