Default Inserting autotext

I use Office 2000 Professional. In MS Word, on long documents, I used to be
able to put a footer, and use auto insert text so that a little line would
appear on the bottom of the page reading something like..."Lecture One page 1
of 5". For some reason, even thuogh the correct sequence appears on screen,
instead of printing "page x of y" it prints out as "page x of x" (i.e. 1 of
1, 2 of 2 etc). It does it on both my printers. I have reinstalled Word and
Office, reinstalled printer drivers. Nothing helps. Please can someone advise
me?
