How do I see two documents independently on the screen?
Using WORD 2003, I can only see one document and it is maximized. If I try
to minimize, it closes the window. In Word 1995, I could see two documents independently, work with them independently, cut and paste from one to the other. I cannot figure out how to do this with Word 2003. Thank you! |

Tools--Options, View tab. Check Windows in Taskbar. If, when you minimize,
it closes, then something is wrong with your window. Hello-
If you want to see both docs at the same time in separate windows & work between the 2, open both, then go to Window Menu. There is a selection there to 'Compare Side by Side' or to 'Arrange All' or wording of that nature. (Can't verify the wording right now because I don't have 2003 available.) If you just want to work back & forth between the open files, the Window Menu also maintains a list of them by name. Select the one you want to bring to the front. BTW- You can also switch between active doc windows using Ctrl+F6. HTH |:) On 8/20/05 1:50 PM, in article , "CT Native" CT wrote: Using WORD 2003, I can only see one document and it is maximized. Thanks for taking the time to answer my post Cyber Taz. Unfortunately, this
doesn't solve my issue. I want to have numerous files open at the same time. I can do this with previous versions of Word, I just don't know how to do it with Word 2003. I still appreciate your help! ) CT Native "CyberTaz" wrote: Hello- If you want to see both docs at the same time in separate windows & work between the 2, open both, then go to Window Menu. Hi Anne Troy, thank you for taking the time to help me. Unfortunately, in
the Tools, option Windows in taskbar was checked and it doesn't work. I looked for obvious titles that will help me with the troubleshooting and didn't find what I need, but will go back and see if it is nested in with something less obvious. Right now I am frustrated, so I think I will wait until I'm a bit more rational. ) CT Native "Anne Troy" wrote: Tools--Options, View tab. Check Windows in Taskbar. Thanks Cyber Taz! Yes, that is exactly what I was looking to do. It is a
bummer that they took that function away. I guess that is known as progress but at least I won't go crazy trying to figure out how to do it. ) "CyberTaz" wrote: You can open as many files as your system can handle from the standpoint of RAM & disk space. I think what you are actually referring to is that in Word 2000 each doc window had its own set of Minimize, Maximize/Restore/Close buttons that appeared at the right end of the Menu bar (directly below the buttons in the Word Title Bar) when the doc window was maximized. Beginning in 2002 & continuing in 2003 it simply doesn't work that way any more. The buttons that control the doc window only appear like that if you have only _one_ doc open. When you open more files the _same_ buttons that would normally control the Word window actually control the window of the active document. IOW, when there are more than one open docs maximized there is only _one_ set of buttons where you are accustomed to seeing _two_ sets. Try opening several files, then click the _middle_ button (Maximize/Restore) and you'll see what I mean. The active doc will then have a title bar of its own & the control buttons for it will be at the right end of the doc's title bar. If you prefer to have Title Bars on all open doc windows, you will have to _not_ maximize them. They didn't take anything away. If you uncheck "Tools Options View
Windows in task bar", you have the old behaviour. No matter which setting you choose, you can arrange several docs on the screen. As CyberTaz said already, your problem likely was that you have maximized one or both docs. Regards, Klaus "CT Native" wrote: Thanks Cyber Taz! Yes, that is exactly what I was looking to do. Hi, I've been watching this helpful info - but I am using Word 2000 and when
I use the arrange all option (don't have compare side by side) the documents are one at tope and one at bottom. I have recently begun proof reading and need to be able to see the original document on one side and create a new doc and type up the errors on the other side - side by side - do I not have this feature in Word 2000? Help - yesterday I spent all day doing a 3 hr job because I had to use an oldfashioned method of pen and paper, first noting the errors and then having to type them up when I was done. Thanks for any help you can give me. "CyberTaz" wrote: Hello- If you want to see both docs at the same time in separate windows & work between the 2, open both, then go to Window Menu. In Word 2000, each document is in its own window -independently moveable and
sizeable. Just manually move and size them where and how you want. To move a window, click and drag it by the title bar. To size a window hover over the edge you want to move until the cursor changes to a two-headed arrow and then click and drag. -- Enjoy, Tony "Proofer" wrote in message ...
