Default Removing a line inside a table cell

I created a table with several split cells and sent it out for people to fill
in and complete the data. Someone has put a line inside one of the unsplit
cells and several of the split cells that I can't figure out how to remove.
This line is not a border nor is is underlined text--it is actually a line
that stretches almost edge to edge of the cell. Apparently what they were
trying to do was split the cell but added this line to divide the cell
instead. If I try to split the cell, the line goes with the split and is in
both cells. If I add a row, the line is in the new row also. In one case
the line is bold and another case the line is thin. Anyone know what was
done and how I get rid of the line???? I have no idea who did this or I
would ask--the table has been through quite a few hands before it got back to
me. Thanks in advance.

its sounds like if you go into the cells properties then "borders and
shading" you will find a "diagonal" border is selected.

hope this helps.

There is a "horizontal line" option in the Borders and Shading dialog that
inserts an actual drawing line or graphic. Can you click on the line to
select it and then press Delete?

If the verticle line you are seeing is near the left margin, it probably is the Word "Review" tab tracking or edit line that Word places in the left margin indicating a change has been made to your document. If you have moved the margins of the document close to the left edge of the paper, the tracking indicator line may appear on top of the words or within a cell of a table. You can verify this by clicking the "Review" menu tab, click the drop down arrow beside "Final Showing Markup", then click on "Final". The document will display without showing the tracking and the verticle line should be gone. If you want all of the tracking to be permanently eliminated, go to the "Changes" area under "Review" tab, click the "Accept" drop down arrow, and click on "Accept All Changes in Document".
