turn off auto update of date for existing document.
If I open an existing Word document, I do not want the date to change.

turn off auto update of date for existing document.
Right-click the date and select Toggle Field Codes. Where you see the
word DATE, change it to say CREATEDATE. Right-click it again and choose Update Field.
