Default How to change default setting for columns in Word 2002?

For the last couple of weeks, new blank pages in Word have been pre-set for 2
columns. I would prefer the normal one-column pre-set, but I can't figure out
how to restore it. I searched on the Microsoft site, but my "page setup"
dialog box does not offer any option for columns, so I am at a dead end. Can
anyone help?
