Default changing filled-in fields into regular text?

I have a Worddocument (Word in Office 2003) with a number of fields, both
general ones and fields with drop-down menus. When the document is imported
into desktop-publishing programme InDesign, the general fields are read, but
the menu-fields are ignored. InDesign doesn't seem to have solution for this.
Therefore my question is whether Word offers a possibility to transfer
menu-fields into regular text after the right option has been chosen.
Preferably in one go, because it concerns many fields, but if it can be done
one by one I will also be fairly happy indeed.

If you unprotect the document. Then click CTRL+a, then CTRL+SHIFT+F9
you will convert all fields to plain text.

wow, didn't realise it could be this simple. Thanks!
I do wonder why Word Help didn't lead me to this answer, but that's another
matter.
