Default Deleting Automatic Page Numbering

I have a document that was originally created in WordPerfect and then saved
as a Word doc. It was set up for automatic page numbering and now I can't
get rid of it in the Word doc. I think in the conversion, it did it as a
header, but how do I get rid of it?

acmatters,
When you are in the header do you see the numbering? Can you click on it, if
so there will probably be a box around it, click the border of the box again
and black squares should appear, now press delete.
If that does not help press alt+f9 to see if there is some field in there
that applies the numbering, select it and delete it.
