Default How do I change the cursor insertion point symbol?

I opened an existing document in Word 2003 that was sent to me via email . It
was setup to view four pages at a time on screen, and that was okay. But, now
that I've gotten out of the file, whenever I open Word for a new document,
the cursor insertion point has a much smaller vertical line displayed. The
font size is the same---that 's the first thing I checked. How can I change
the cursor vertical symbol to the longer one I had prior to opening the
emailed document?

Hi jldube,

Zoom to 500% and back.

Good luck,

That works, but when I re-open the document I'm back to the short cursor. Am
I going to have to do this 500% trick every time I use Word forevermore?

Thanks

Possibly, at least until someone figures out what causes it.

Today things are back to normal. Restarting Windows seems to have fixed it.
Maybe all I needed was to restart Word ... not sure.

Thanks!

I had the exact same problem and it was driving me crazy. Then someone
e-mailed me a document in a larger size font than usual and I noticed that
the cursor, although still small, was larger than before. Unbelievably, on my
own, I tried the 500% zoom in and out and that worked, but like you say, the
next document I opened had the short one again. So I started poking around
for an answer here and Imagine my surprise to discover that this is "the
actual fix" for this problem!

New documents still had the short cursor until I saved one of the files with
the larger one, quit Word and then reopened. I hope that fixes it for good!

Basically just adding this post to add credence to it being a bug.
