Word 2002 opens very slowly (about 20 seconds). It also closes slowly and
very often get a program not responding when I try to close a document. How
do I fix this?

If you're using Symantec/Norton AntiVirus, try disabling the
Office Plugin that comes with it. See

Disabled Office plugin and no change. Should I uninstall Works Suite 2002
(which includes Word 2002) and then reinstall to solve problem? I also have
Office 97 on this computer so that I can use Excel. Should I uninstall and
reinstall Office 97 too.

No, I don't believe that either Works Suite 2002 or Office 97 are
causing the problem. You might try uninstalling the Works Suite
Add-In for Word though (Start | Control Panel | Add/Remove
Programs). And work through the troubleshooting steps in
