Default How do I switch the dictionary language in Word 2003?

I want to save my default dictionary language (for spell checks) to English
UK and it keeps popping back to English US. Can't seem to figure out how to
make it stick. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

The language is a formatting parameter of the text. The usual reason for
switching is pasting text from a web page.
You can minimise the problem by setting tools language set language
uncheck 'automatically detect' (There's a similar option in Word 2007).
Any text reporting the wrong language can be selected (CTRL+A) and the
correct language re-applied.

I have the same issue and have set my dictionary to English (US) and
unchecked the Auto detect language but during the spell check, about 2/3
into the doc, the dictionary switches to French. I can't seem to "force" the
spell check to be in English only - any other suggestions? Thanks.

Apperently my problem was that a document sent to me was partially formatted
in French which seems to override the local language settings - once in the
document I clicked on Format Reveal Formatting and the scrolled through the
document and towards the bottom I noticed the language change - once I
changed it back to English the spell checker check in the entire doc in
English only.
