I received an email with a jpg attachment. I need to convert this to a WORD
document, but can't seem to figure how to do it! Can anyone help? (I'm NOT
a well-skilled PC user!)

The short answer is "No." A somewhat longer answer is "Not easily anyhow."

The still longer answer is that you've got to capture the text in that
document in a way that's intelligible to Word. There are programs that will
attempt to do this but my own experience is that my own reading + typing is
the most efficient.

However painful that process may seem.

created - the type of image (jpg, gif, tif, bmp ... etc) depends on the
software used with/by the scanner. In your case it was a jpg.

That image may be manipulated only by graphics (i.e. drawing) software,
which could also be used to convert it to TIF format (below).

To obtain an editable document you need to use Optical Character
Recognition (OCR) software. This 'reads' and 'recognises' parts of
the image as 'writing' and the result can be sent to (say) Word.

Please research:
a. The software that came with your scanner (if you have one) -
is it OCR? If so it should be able to open the jpg for recognition.
OCR software may be purchased separately.
b. Microsoft Office Document Scanning (with recent versions of Office)
c. Microsoft Office Document Imaging (with recent versions of Office) -
will open a TIF file.

If b/c are installed they can be found in
StartAll ProgramsMicrosoft OfficeMicrosoft Office Tools

Save the jpg to disc with an easy to remember name and where you'll be able
to find it easily. Desktop is good for this.

Open Word.

Click Insert, Picture, Browse and find the picture; click on it to insert
it, and it'll be inserted into Word. Proceed as usual after that.

No, it's as easy as inserting the jpg image as a picture in Word.

Hey, guys, simmer down! I think both of you gave valid answers based on your
interpretation of the question. It is not unusual for users to ask how to
"open" a picture in Word (which would be similar to "converting" a picture
to a Word document) when what they really need is to insert the picture in
Word. It's also far from uncommon for users not to understand that text
scanned as a picture is not editable until it has been OCR'd. Unless the OP
posts back to indicate which was the intended meaning, I don't think we can
be really clear from the wording of the question which interpretation was
the correct one--and it may be some of both: if the JPEG is a scan of a
document, and all the OP needs to do is read it, then inserting it into a
document will suffice.
