How do I update cross references without them disappearing?
Please help!
I am using cross references to reference figures and tables in the text. I use "insert/cross reference/figure" to enter a figure label and number in the text. However, when I update the references using F9 or select all/F9, lots of them disappear instead of updating. Does anyone know how I can stop this? thanks |

How do I update cross references without them disappearing?
Hi ?B?amVuX3dyaXRlcg==?=,
I am using cross references to reference figures and tables in the text. I use "insert/cross reference/figure" to enter a figure label and number in the text. However, when I update the references using F9 or select all/F9, lots of them disappear instead of updating. Does anyone know how I can stop this? Cross-references always refer to bookmarks; if you're referencing something other than a bookmark, Word generates a bookmark around the text the cross-ref is picking up. any chance that the bookmarks on your system are being changed? Alt+F9 to see the field codes. Look for a cross-reference you know should be there, but has disappeared: you should see a { REF } field. In the field will be a number, like _Ref90098098098508. Note that number, then go to Insert/Bookmark and find it in the list. (Note: you may have to activate/deactivate/activate the "Hidden bookmarks" checkbox until these show in the list.) Once you've located the bookmark in the list and selected it, click the "Go to" button. The document should jump to the location where the bookmark is. Does this select anything, or are you left with a blinking cursor?
