How do you merge a field as a percentage?
Help - I noticed there was information provided earlier, however I have found
this unhelpful. When I merge a percentage it is coming across as a decimal, I have tried the DDE option and this has not worked. Look forward to your response |

How do you merge a field as a percentage?
For whole number percentages you should be able to use a nested field
{ ={ MERGEFIELD mypercentage } * 100 \#0% } For fractional percentages such as 41.5% you can use, e.g. { ={ MERGEFIELD mypercentage } * 100 \#0.0% } (add as many 0s at the end as you need) or { ={ MERGEFIELD mypercentage } * 100 \#0.#% } (add as many #s at the end as you need) In all cases, you need to substitute the correct field name instead of "mypercentage", and the {} are all the special field code braces that you can insert using ctrl-F9. (What that won't do is display the perecentage in exactly the same format as it appears in your data source. For example, if your data source may show 1.00% as 1%, 1.20% as 1.2%, 1.23% as 1.23% etc. whereas a. the \#0.0% switch would result in 1.0%, 1.2% and 1.2% respectively b. the \#0.#% switch would result in 1.space%, 1.2% and 1.2% respectively c. a \#0.00% switch would result in 1.00%, 1.20% and 1.23% respectively ....and so on. I don't have field code that does that and although it may be fairly easy to do something useful it's probably best avoided unless you really need it. Maybe macropod has tested code for that?) Thanks for the advice - I have done this and below is how the merge comes out like: { = {0.00000000000000E-2 * 100\#0.00% } Regards "Peter Jamieson" wrote: For whole number percentages you should be able to use a nested field { ={ MERGEFIELD mypercentage } * 100 \#0% } For fractional percentages such as 41.5% you can use, e.g. How do you merge a field as a percentage?
Does anyone have the solution to this problem? I have the exact same problem
and cannot seem to find the solution. I searched on Graham Mayor's page that was linked, but am still not able to find the solution to the problem. When I am at the spot where I wish to enter my merge info, I press CTRL+F9, then I insert the merge field. When I go back to type in the "=" between the brackets, or any of the info after the first close bracket, it no longer works. The correct result would be: 46.2500% But instead I'm getting the following result: {=0.462500000000000002*100 \#0.0000%} "Doug Robbins - Word MVP" wrote: There is something that you are not doing right. How do you merge a field as a percentage?
The field construction that you should have would look like
{ = { MERGEFIELD fieldname } * 100 \# 0.0000% } You must use Ctrl+F9 for both pairs of field delimiters. If what you see is {=0.462500000000000002*100 \#0.0000%} it would appear that the remaining pair of { } were typed from the keyboard rather than being created by using Ctrl+F9 -- Hope this helps. How do you merge a field as a percentage?
hi Stacie,
To control percentage formatting in Word, add a formula and numeric picture switch to the mergefield. To do this: .. select your mergefield, which will look something like «Percent»; .. press Ctrl-F9 to wrap another field around it, thus { «Percent» }; .. edit the field so that you get {=«Percent»*100 \# 0.00%}; .. position the cursor anywhere in this field and press F9 to update it; .. run your mailmerge. Note: the precision of the displayed value is controlled by the '0.00'. You can use anything from '0' to '0.000000000000000'. -- Cheers macropod [Microsoft MVP - Word] "Stacie2410" wrote in message ... Does anyone have the solution to this problem? How do you merge a field as a percentage?
I understand about the Ctrl+F9. I actually did not type any of the brackets,
I used Ctrl +F9 to insert the first pair, then once my cursor was inside them, I inserted the merge field (using the toolbar command). The only typing I did at all was the =, and then the *100\#0.0000%. I'm not sure why it's treating it like I manually typed the brackets. How do you merge a field as a percentage?
Hi Stacie2410,
Did you actually execute the merge after adding the field code? What you're describing suggests that maybe you're previewing the merge without updating the revised field (via F9). -- Cheers macropod [Microsoft MVP - Word] "Stacie2410" wrote in message ... Yes, I did execute the merge after adding the field code. I can send a copy
