I am not an expert but currently working on forms myself. Have you tried just
doing as save as .dot file?

I suspect the OP was working with a hard-copy form or a document that did
not already have form fields and was wanting to know how to turn this "form"
into an interactive form that could be filled in online. Many users confuse
the concept of "protected form" and "template."

What I have is a hard copy of a form and would like to create the same form
on MS Word, that I can use off line. Is "protected form" or "template" ,
the right term.

Needs to be both a template and a protected form to be useful (that is, if
you want it to be used more than once). See
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customizat...nTheBlanks.htm and especially
the forms tutorials by Dian Chapman that this article links to.
