ms word shut down when typing "I"

It sounds like the key combination "Shift + I" has been assigned to act like
"Alt + F4". Tools Customize File, click "Keyboard" and under File look for FileCloseorExit and see what the keyboard assignment is. If it is "Shift + I" that will explain the behavior. If you have no other custom keyboard assignments, you can click "Reset all" and this should solve your problem. If you have other custom keyboard assignments, click "Remove" to get rid of this assignment, then assign "Alt+F4" to this command.
