Default Word 2007 - Forms (text not printing)

I created a Word template that is a form (fields that can be entered, the
rest is protected). It looks fine in print preview but almost all the text
(not the fields) disapear when I print to a printer.

The template functions fine when used for a new document. but the same
printing problem happens here too.

I use the same template in Word 2003 and the document prints perfectly (text
and values entered in the form's fields).

Any idea what is happening?

Thanks.

Hi Jon,

What printer model are you using? Do you get the same result if you print to the MS Office Document Image Writer (optional install
feature of Office 2003 and Office 2007) or to a PDF printer?

Was the form template created in Word 2007 release version or a beta one? Are you saving the template in .dot, .dotx or .dotm?

Is your default file format in File=Button=Word Options=Save Word 2007 or Word 2003?

Can you email me a copy of the file?

Default Word 2007 - Forms (text not printing)

Hi Bob,

I was printing to a Canon multi-purpose office machine (B&W,
copier, fax, printer). I was able to print the '2007' form fine to a Dell
color laser printer from both Word 2007 and 2003.

The form was created in Word 2007 RTM. I decided to recreate the form from
scratch in Word 2003 and was able to print to the Canon printer fine. I
deleted the Word 2007 one so don't have it to send you. I can try to
recreate the problem again and send.

Since the rest of the business is using Office 2003, I've been saving all
files in compatibility mode, in this case .dot and .doc formats.

Default Word 2007 - Forms (text not printing)

Hi Bob,

I saved the form as a PDF and was able to print it fine on that same Canon
printer so the problem appears to be printing from Word 2007 directly to that
one printer. As I mentioned before, printing from Word 2003 to that printer
is not a problem and printing from Word 2007 to a different printer isn't
either. I have no idea why but it doesn't appear to be Woor 2007's problem.

Oh well. I'll just have to remember this is the case and use a different
printer.

Thanks for prodding me to try a couple different tasks to pinpoint where the
problem might be.

Hi ?B?Sm9uIEw=?=,

You might try contacting Canon (via their website) and asking whether 1) they
know of the problem and 2) whether they have an updated driver that deals with
the problem. It's not uncommon to have to update both printer and graphics card
drivers with new versions of Word :-)
