Default Text overlaping when editing word documents

When I am using word 2000, I find some of my text overlapping. It looks like
several lines of text are typed on the same line, some times large amounts of
text are crunched into just a few characters of space. I am only using
standard fonts (times new roman font, size 12) when this happens. It does
not matter if I change the font type or size the text remains over lapped. I
have checked the format font and paragraph settings and they all appear to be
correct.

However if I bold the text that is over lapped, the over lap is corrected
until I un-bold it.
The only fix I have so far to close and restart word, which fixes the
problem for a short time.
Any suggestions?

Default

This is (sort of) a printer driver issue. Apparently Word sometimes loses
track of the printer driver. Go to File | Print and change to some other
printer, then back to the default one. It's also a good idea to clear out
accumulated temp files, as they seem to have some relevance to this issue.
