Default Smart Quotes

I have Word 2007 set to automatically replace "straight quotes" with
"smart quotes."

Is there any way to temporarily disable that without having to go into
Word Options and change the default setting?

Default Smart Quotes

Yes, there is. Immediately after Word has converted a quote, you can press
Ctrl+Z to undo the conversion.
