Filename does not update automatically in MSWord 2003 Header
If you put the file name or {FILENAME} in the header of your Normal.dot
file using Header and Footer toolbar, Insert File Name, the file name of the new word doc does not get updated. It always says Normal.dot. If you close the file and change the name, when you reopen it, the old file name is still in the header even though it was created using the Header and footer toolbar. It used to update automatically, now you have to update it manually (F9 update field code on selected item) Funny thing, it worked correctly in MSWord 2000 and MSWord 97/98. ---------------- This post is a suggestion for Microsoft, and Microsoft responds to the suggestions with the most votes. Filename does not update automatically in MSWord 2003 Header
This is by design. See:

Filename does not update automatically in MSWord 2003 Header
Do not put headers/footers in normal.dot. It will cause unexpected problems
and prevent you from using the label wizard effectively. If you want headers/footers then create document templates. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org Sam S. wrote: If you put the file name or {FILENAME} in the header of your Normal.dot file using Header and Footer toolbar, Insert File Name, the file name of the new word doc does not get updated.
