Default How to use tab key to increase indent in a bulleted list?

I used to use the tab key and shift+tab key to increase and decrease the
indent in bulleted or numbered lists. For some reason this is no long
functioning. I have Microsoft 2003 (Windows XP),

Hi, Kim. In Word, click on Tools | AutoCorrect Options | AutoFormat As You
Type | check the "Set left- and first-indent with tabs and backspaces" box |
OK.
